Description
The marble owl was carved from a boulder of white stone. It’s a self-collected natural specimen from Texada Island British Columba Canada. Hand-chiselled traditional modus operandi stone carving by the old school way. The finished surface shows the different chiselling techniques and the inside of the stone where sparky crystals are visible.

Texada Island is mostly known for its limestone deposit, however, some marble is also present. It’s a white stone overall but some other minerals that are mixed in it come out when working on it. For this marble owl sculpture, I selected the part that I can polish (the eyes and the beak) and for the wings and body different relief methods. The sculpture is perfectly suitable for interior and exterior displays. Marble is a 5 on the hardness scale of 1-10 and a simple soap wash makes it new looking when needed.
I was working on this piece (occasionally) for months, it’s a presentation of how traditional chiselling applies in art.
