What’s slag? This specimen is from Greenwood British Columbia just across the US boarder in Canada.
The Kootenay region is famous for it’s rich mineral deposits, and many mines and processing facilities opened since the late 1800’s. A smelter in Greenwood processed copper and silver, The raw stone was heated up to a temperature, when even rocks melts, basically creating artificial lava. They separated the silver and copper content, and the rest as slag went back where it came from, and let mother nature to take over.
When I picked up this piece, I have seen a rainbow color ray at the edge, and I was hoping if I polished it’ll show like a pattern. Unfortunately it didn’t happened, but I got a glass like shiny artificial stone, what looks, and acts like Obsidian. aybe the best description would be, manipulated stone.
It’s a nice large very shiny pendant.
